Kanakia’s Monsoon Marathon Challenge

The benefits of running a half marathon are immense. The race helps you stay motivated to run and thus burn a lot of calories, lose or maintain weight, strengthen your heart while reducing blood pressure, along with providing a host of health benefits. It also gives you an excellent opportunity to meet other runners, spend time with friends and family, support a cause, travel to new destinations, and earn a medal that you can show off proudly. Recently, Kanakia Group was honored to be associated with one such event – the Monsoon Marathon Challenge, a half marathon that brought fitness freaks, casual runners, and family and friends together from around the country.

The Challenge

Half marathons are gaining popularity around the world, with several being held at different places in Mumbai alone. The Kanakia Monsoon Marathon Challenge, held on 23rd July 2017 at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, saw over 3,000 runners of different age groups brave the rains with grit, determination and courage. Participants ran in the 5, 10, or 21 km category of the half marathon, conquering physical and mental challenges. At 6 am, the stage was set, and the crowd was ready. Within 20 minutes, the roads were already filled with contenders. Beats of dhols and drums that were being played from the side-lines pumped up the runners during this half marathon. The highlight of the event was the participation of all types of runners – from those partaking for the first time to seasoned professionals, from older to younger generation. Some ran for their various causes, while others did it for fun.

The Winners

Although runners Parina Khilari, Anil Korvi, and Megh Bhuvad emerged as the leaders in 5, 10, and 21 km race respectively, the real winners of the marathon were all the participants who successfully aced each category. The crowd was incredibly supportive, and several contenders were seen bonding with one another by the end of each race. All-in-all, the Kanakia Monsoon Marathon Challenge helped usher in a new chapter in Mumbai’s inter-community relations as all the participants ran as one.
