About ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’ – the record setting photography contest
Kanakia Zillion Gallery was inaugurated on August 7, 2014. It hosted the ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’ photography contest that celebrates ordinary Mumbaikars who ensure the city functions smoothly but are seldom felicitated. They include liftwalas, chaiwalas, securitywalas, autowalas, juicewalas, dabbawalas and many others. The contest, which was judged by renowned photographer Atul Kasbekar, saw the engagement of over 3 lakh people, thus earning it a space in the Limca Book of Records. A massive replica of the Bandra-Worli sea link, a life-size kettle representing chaiwalas, a 6 feet ‘dabba’ or lunchbox that paid an ode to the famous Dabbawalas of Mumbai were some of the other attractions at the event. Victoria Baggi, a symbol of Mumbai’s past, moved around the arena, providing visitors a truly unique experience.
